Trump Want Washington Commanders to Restore Redskins Name
Briefly

President Donald Trump urged the Washington Commanders to revert to the Redskins name, expressing that many Native Americans desire the change. He emphasized concerns over heritage loss, referencing the situation with the Cleveland Indians. Trump criticized the name change, claiming that the country should prioritize passion and common sense. Polling data from 2020 indicated that over half of Native Americans opposed the Redskins name, with many offended by fan actions such as the tomahawk chop. Despite Trump's calls, the Commanders' owner stated there are currently no plans to restore the former name.
President Donald Trump made a fiery call for the Washington Commanders to restore the Redskins name which it left behind in 2020. In a post to Truth Social, the president claimed that Native Americans want the name changed back. The Washington Whatever's should IMMEDIATELY change their name back to the Washington Redskins Football Team! There is a big clamoring for this.
Likewise, the Cleveland Indians, one of the six original baseball teams, with a storied past, should consider a name change as our great Indian people, in massive numbers, want this to happen. Their heritage and prestige is systematically being taken away from them.
Polling conducted in 2020 found more than half of Native Americans objected to the team's former name. Further, vast majorities took offense to various acts fans performed at the games such as the tomahawk chop and the imitation of Native American dances.
Trump has ripped the name change several times in recent months. However, Commanders owner Josh Harris told Fox News in April that there are no plans to restore the former name.
