He told CBS that he would "be lying otherwise" if he denied considering a presidential campaign and said, "I'm looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets that moment. And that's the question for the American people." Newsom served as San Francisco mayor from 2004 to 2011 and has been California governor since 2019. He has been a prominent critic of Donald Trump, clashing over immigration, National Guard deployments, and redistricting, and has called Trump "an invasive species."
