Halo Remake "Warms My Heart," Original Dev Says
""My honest impression of seeing the new Halo Campaign Evolved is this: I absolutely love where this is going. The game looks and feels genuine. It's gorgeous in a way I wish we could have built it originally back in 2001. It warms my heart to see Halo CE like this," Lehto said."
"The Halo 1 remake, which is called Halo: Campaign Evolved, launches in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and PC, as well as PlayStation 5. The franchise is synonymous with Xbox and has been exclusive on console to Xbox for 20+ years, but that changes in 2026 as part of the franchise's 25th anniversary. It may not be the last Halo game on PS5, either, as Halo Studios has said "Halo is on PlayStation" going forward."
"Halo: Campaign Evolved features "reborn" visuals, new prequel missions, more guns, and the ability to sprint. Griesemer, for his part, said some of the Warthog changes are not to his liking. There is no head-to-head multiplayer support, but campaign co-op will be available."
Marcus Lehto praises Halo: Campaign Evolved for its updated visuals and faithful feel, calling it gorgeous and emotionally resonant compared to the 2001 original. The remake includes reborn visuals, new prequel missions, additional weapons, and the ability to sprint. The release is scheduled for 2026 on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 simultaneously as part of the franchise's 25th anniversary, marking Halo's expansion to PlayStation. Some original designers voiced objections to certain changes, including Warthog alterations. The campaign will support co-op but lacks head-to-head multiplayer. Pricing remains unannounced and Microsoft reportedly works on a live-service Halo project.
