Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a love letter to the series' NES roots
Briefly

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, developed by The Game Kitchen, is a passionate homage to the 80s classic Ninja Gaiden series. Unlike the darker tone of their previous title, Blasphemous, Ragebound embraces a vibrant, cheesy aesthetic and high-paced gameplay. The game introduces two protagonists, juxtaposing a newcomer from the traditionally antagonist Black Spider Clan with the series hero, Ryu Hayabusa. Set amidst the events of the original 1988 NES game, players are tasked with thwarting demons descending upon Hayabusa Village, balancing excitement and nostalgia for fans of the franchise.
"I'm an '80s kid," says David Jaumandreu, game director and producer on Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. "I still have my copy of the first Ninja Gaiden in the basement." The Game Kitchen’s nostalgia shines through as they pay homage to the series while creating a fresh experience.
One of the things the team knew they wanted was to include two protagonists, with one emerging from the Black Spider Clan. This dynamic is a fresh twist given the clan's traditional role as foes in the franchise.
Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound leans into the franchise's origin as an '80s product, with a loud, cheesy aesthetic that's distinctly different from the darker atmosphere of Blasphemous.
Ragebound's gameplay emphasizes speed, as levels grade players based on completion time and damage taken, reflecting a blend of nostalgia and modern action gaming.
