Tina Charles, WNBA career rebound leader and former MVP, announces retirement after 14 seasons
"Today, I officially announce my retirement from basketball. This game gave me everything and I'll miss it deeply. I've experienced the highest highs and the lowest lows, and I'm thankful for all of it."
"Growing up in Queens, New York, basketball wasn't just a game, it was a language, a rhythm, its survival, its expression. It pulled me in early, and I gave myself fully to it."
"Charles is the WNBA's leader in career rebounds (4,262), double-doubles (201) and made field goals (3,364), as well as second on the list for career points (8,396) behind Diana Taurasi."
Tina Charles has announced her retirement from basketball after 14 seasons in the WNBA. The former MVP and eight-time All-Star is the league's all-time leader in rebounds, double-doubles, and field goals made. Drafted No. 1 overall by the Connecticut Sun in 2010, she played for six franchises, including a significant tenure with the New York Liberty. Despite not winning a WNBA championship, Charles has three Olympic gold medals and two NCAA championships, and is considered a future Hall of Famer.
