The Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL) commenced on June 7 with four teams: Talons, Blaze, Volts, and Bandits, consisting of 64 players. The league lacks home stadiums, utilizing various cities for games. Following six weeks of play, the top two teams will compete in the AUSL Championships in Tuscaloosa from July 26 to 28. The league aims to keep athletes playing beyond college age, creating more opportunities. It will feature 48 games this summer, with aspirations for expansion in future seasons, currently broadcast on ESPN and MLB.TV.
"Now that women will keep playing, they are sharpening each other. That's what I think excites me the most - that these athletes will be able to find out that there's more within them."
"Thanks to the AUSL, these athletes get to play at age 25, 30, and beyond."
