Meg Jones to captain England at Women's Six Nations with Zoe Stratford pregnant
"It's a huge honour to have been named captain of the Red Roses. Mitch and I have built a strong relationship over the past three years and it's a great feeling to have his trust to lead the group along with a tight leadership team."
"Meg reflects our values; her personality, capabilities, and leadership are hugely valuable to the Red Roses squad. She brings an infectious energy that lifts those around her and has had a huge influence on our culture and connections over the past three years."
"Not only is Meg highly respected, but she also consistently produces high-level performances and leads by example every time she takes to the field."
Meg Jones has been appointed captain of England's women's rugby team, taking over from Zoe Stratford who announced her pregnancy. Jones, 29, was vice-captain when England won the World Cup last September. She will lead the Red Roses in the Women's Six Nations starting April 11 against Ireland at Twickenham, where over 60,000 spectators are expected. Jones will be supported by vice-captains Amy Cokayne and Alex Matthews. Coach John Mitchell praised Jones for reflecting the team's values and bringing infectious energy to the squad. England aims to win their eighth consecutive Six Nations title and extend their 33-match winning streak.
