This initial pullback included areas of Gaza City that the Israeli army had occupied during its military operation called Chariots of Gideon 2, launched in August 2025."

The pullback returned control of Al-Jalaa Street, Universities Street, Tel al-Hawa, Al-Zaytoun (south), Sheikh Radwan pond, Al-Rashid Street, Abu Hamid, Bani Suhaila, and parts of central Khan Yunis and eastern areas following five months of occupation. Despite that pullback, withdrawal maps show Israeli forces retaining control of 58 percent of the Gaza Strip, including Rafah; parts of Al-Zaytoun, Al-Shujaiya, Tuffah, Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun, and areas of eastern Khan Yunis. Many neighborhoods near the Yellow Line remain active war zones and some residents have been prevented from returning.
