Israel suspends evacuation of patients via Rafah crossing: Red Crescent
"The evacuation of Palestinian patients and wounded via the Rafah crossing has been suspended for today, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has told Al Jazeera, adding that Israel informed the organisation about the move on Wednesday morning. Evacuation of Palestinian patients and wounded via the Rafah crossing was suspended today, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said. Sick and wounded were to receive preliminary checkups at the Red Cross hospital before ambulance transfer to Rafah and onward to Egyptian hospitals. Only five Palestinians left for Egypt on Monday and 16 on Tuesday, well below the 50 a day Israeli officials had said would be allowed. Only Palestinians who left Gaza during the war and passed Israeli security vetting may return. Returnees report blindfolding, handcuffing, interrogation and sexual harassment. More than 18,000 patients await medical evacuation, including about 440 critical cases. Israeli authorities offered no explanation for denials as restrictions coincided with at least 10 Palestinians killed across Gaza overnight.
