The Israeli military opened a criminal investigation into the leak of a video showing Israeli guards sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee after receiving newly obtained information. Military Advocate General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was placed on leave and resigned after taking responsibility for approving the video's release, saying she sought to expose illegal actions and preserve Israel's credibility internationally. Ministers have urged prosecution of the leaker. Far-right Israeli groups staged protests last year after the guards' arrest, including breaking into a compound to support reservists accused of abusing a Palestinian detainee.
