"Yousaf Hammad, a spokesperson for Afghanistan's disaster management agency, said most of the injured suffered minor wounds and were discharged after receiving initial treatment. In Kabul, the ministry of defence announced that rescue and emergency aid teams had reached the affected areas in the Balkh and Samangan provinces and had begun rescue operations, including transporting the injured and assisting affected families."

A 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan at 12.59am local time with an epicentre 22km west-southwest of Khulm and a depth of 28km. More than 20 people were killed and about 320 injured, with Balkh and Samangan provinces suffering most of the damage. Rescue and emergency aid teams reached affected areas, transported injured people and assisted families. Most injured suffered minor wounds and were discharged after initial treatment. The quake caused damage to the 15th-century Blue Mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, including pieces breaking off a minaret. The tremor was felt in Kabul and other areas.
