"We expect that the American side will be just as active, and in particular this applies to de-escalation measures -- reducing strikes. And much depends on what the American side will succeed in, so that people trust both the process and the results, of course,"
A new round of trilateral talks involving Ukraine, Russia and the United States is scheduled for February 4–5 in the United Arab Emirates following deadly Russian air strikes on civilian sites. Preparatory work includes a February 2 meeting with Kyiv’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov and plans for the Ukrainian team to depart that evening. Direct negotiations previously resumed in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24 after months of rarity since the February 2022 invasion. The United States’ special envoy recently met a Kremlin negotiator. Ukraine expects active US engagement on de-escalation measures, particularly reductions in strikes, to build trust in the process and outcomes.
