"Soumaya Hamdi told the Guardian she first learned her husband, Sami Hamdi, was detained at San Francisco international airport when a friend asked her to confirm rumors he had been abducted by ICE. When he was finally able to briefly call her, Hamdi only had enough time to say he had been taken to an immigration detention center in McFarland, California, where he remains."
""We're being kept in the dark," Soumaya said, adding that all she knew was that her husband was given a November court date as the US government seeks to deport him. "I can't begin to even try to explain to you how distressing it is for them to try to understand that they can't speak to their father, whom they talk to all the time and send funny videos and jokes and do video calls with.""
"The US state department did not respond to a request for comment but said in a social media post that the United States has no obligation to host foreigners who support terrorism and actively undermine the safety of Americans and that it would continue to revoke the visas of persons engaged in such activity. This would appear to be a reference to remarks made by Hamdi at the time of the October 7 attacks on Israel by Hamas."
Sami Hamdi, a British commentator, was detained by US immigration after arriving at San Francisco international airport and transferred to an immigration detention center in McFarland, California. His wife learned of the detention from a friend and spoke with him for about 30 seconds; he was given a November court date as the US seeks deportation. The couple have three children, including a 10-month-old, who are unable to contact their father. Hamdi holds a valid British visa and has traveled frequently to the US. The US State Department said it will revoke visas of those it says support terrorism, referencing Hamdi's remarks around October 7.
