Amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, Afghanistan and Pakistan have moved to restore ambassador-level diplomatic ties with the help of China. A meeting in Beijing led both countries to agree to re-establish relations after years of conflict, largely motivated by their respective needs for stability and investment. This renewed collaboration also opens the doors for Afghanistan to join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. The urgency for dialogue was heightened by Pakistan's strained military resources due to its conflict with India, encouraging all parties to cooperate for mutual benefits.
"That was the moment all sides realized it's best for them to work together to solve the problems," the Pakistani official said.
Beijing was probably also keen to bolster its image as a diplomatic power broker, analysts said, and to present an alternative to Western-led peace efforts.
