"I am not a wretched performance artist, or merely a comedian, or the ghastly clown, or simply an actor. I perform as this alter ego. I do songs sorta and stand-up kinda and ummm I look insane. It's like, funny performance art, or artsy comedy. It's like my insides on the outsides."
"Art shouldn't have to explain itself. It should move you through an unnamable thing; after all, it is another language."
"Cameron has performed as Dynasty Handbag for over 20 years, notably winning a Guggenheim fellowship in 2022 and co-creating a film titled Weirdo Night, which was shown at Sundance Film Festival in 2021."
Jibz Cameron, performing as Dynasty Handbag for over 20 years, intentionally refuses to categorize her work within conventional artistic genres. She describes her practice as funny performance art mixed with stand-up and music, presenting her internal experiences externally. Cameron believes art should communicate through an unnamable language rather than self-explanation. Her career includes significant achievements such as a 2022 Guggenheim fellowship, the Sundance-featured film Weirdo Night, and the acclaimed 2015 conceptual talk show Good Morning Evening Feelings. Collaborators including Paul Reubens, Kate Berlant, and Cole Escola have participated in her ongoing variety show. Cameron's new memoir, Hell in a Handbag, explores her artistic philosophy and background growing up in a Northern California commune.
