L.A.'s most epic family-run haunted house might just be in Van Nuys
""The only thing he was worried about was getting out and finishing,""
""They thought it was an actual house extension," Ana says."
""We were like, 'No, it's Halloween decorations.' The inspector came by, and I was like, 'No, it's foam.'""
Kenny Enea suffered a stroke about a month before Halloween but prioritized completing the family’s elaborate decorations. The Hatteras Halloween House, in its eighth and final year, transforms a Van Nuys yard into a large walk-through haunt that draws thousands. The display includes a cemetery, antique piano skeleton, rickety bridge, swamp scene, doll-filled tea area, chapel and exorcism room. The family finished assembly days before Oct. 31 and planned a celebration with a tarot reader, actors and a wedding for Ana Lovelis and Kenny Enea. A neighbor’s complaint prompted a visit from a city inspector, who was reassured the structures were foam decorations.
