An Abandoned Stone Building in Mallorca Resurrected: September Moore Design's Latest Remodel
"They camp out in their houses during the renovation, live in them for a time, and then move on. When a Spanish architect friend invited September to go house hunting with him in Mallorca, she fell in love with a long-abandoned century-old limestone structure with an inner courtyard."
September Moore and Colin Moore met in 1982 on a Paris train to Italy and married within the year. They raised three children in the US and France, with Colin graduating from chiropractic school and practicing while September ran garden and interior design stores and a B&B. They developed a shared interest in restoring old houses. In 1999, they moved from Tampa, Florida, to a village near Carcassonne in southern France after objecting to the direction of the country. Since then, they have remodeled about a dozen places, including five in the last five years. Their process involves camping in the houses during renovation, living in them afterward, and using traditional materials and methods without Sheetrock or laminate.
