Brooklyn Loft That Marries Industrial Edge With a Playful Aesthetic
Briefly

A century-old industrial building in Brooklyn has been converted into a 1,700-square-foot loft, blending historic charm with modern design elements. Hormuz Batliboi of Batliboi Studio renovated the space for Valerie Tsvetkova, incorporating original timber beams and steel joints as key design features. The floorplan was reimagined to centralize utilities and seamlessly integrate the kitchen. A standout feature is a 15-foot sculptural shelf made from CNC-milled wood, designed to match existing decor while providing functional storage.
The loft has been transformed with a playful, industrial edge, combining historic character with modern ingenuity to create a fresh interpretation of loft living.
Original timber beams and steel joints were uncovered during the renovation and incorporated into the design, lending authenticity to the space.
Batliboi reimagined the floorplan by centralizing utilities and raising the floor in certain areas, which allowed for a seamless kitchen integration.
A highlight is the 15-foot sculptural shelf crafted from laminated wood layers, serving as both a functional sideboard and an artistic focal point.
