"We realized the importance of having a space outside of the house, even if it is only a few feet away. Over the five years that we've lived in this home, we've had a multitude of ideas regarding the large open space that was our backyard, but they never followed through. For the most part, it was mainly used as a large potty for my Pekingese, Bentley."
"Courtney painted the entire beige wall a bold, burnt orange (Sherwin-Williams' Emberglow) and hand-painted a white chevron design to give it a boho, wallpapered look. In order to help this space transition from daytime use to entertaining in the evenings, Courtney added a simple set of string lights for ambiance and a teal rattan chandelier to serve as a visual centerpiece for the space."
After spending increased time at home, Courtney Scott and her husband Nathaniel decided to reimagine their underutilized backyard. The space had remained largely unused for five years, primarily serving as a dog bathroom. They envisioned creating a relaxing outdoor retreat for themselves and eventually for entertaining guests. Beginning in April 2021, Courtney tackled the covered patio area by painting the beige wall a bold burnt orange and hand-painting a white chevron pattern for a boho aesthetic. She enhanced the ambiance with string lights and added a teal rattan chandelier as a visual focal point. The transformation converted the blank, personality-lacking space into a functional and inviting outdoor entertaining area.
