This stunning new bike and pedestrian crossing hangs off the side of an old railroad bridge
Briefly

The new bridge for cyclists and pedestrians in Albi is attached to an existing railway viaduct, spanning nearly 600 feet over the Tarn River. This structure facilitates safe crossing into a park and new developments without the risk of traffic. It is part of a local climate initiative aimed at reducing car use and promoting cycling. The design enables close views of the historic viaduct and includes areas for people to relax and enjoy the scenery. Repurposing the bridge reduced construction costs significantly.
The new footbridge, which just opened, is attached to the side of the 19th-century structure, creating a direct link for cyclists and pedestrians.
With the new passageway, 'you're in a dedicated area, and there are no cars,' he says. 'There's no pressure from motorized traffic.'
On the new bridge, it's possible to see the historic viaduct up close, something that wasn't accessible before.
Adding on to the old bridge also made it cheaper to build, at a cost of around 5.5 million euros.
