Fortunately for The Newman - the latest boutique property to opened here, on Newman Street, just weeks ago - its USP is a good one: celebrating the particular character and vibrancy of Fitzrovia, the central London district that was once the hub of the city's Bohemian arts and literary scene during the early decades of the 20th century.
The $2 billion overhaul included 375 new hotel rooms that balance modern luxury with Art Deco heritage, an ultra-luxurious Empire Suite, new restaurants, and a fully restored ballroom and famous clock. Earlier this month, the hotel unveiled the Guerlain Wellness Spa, a 22,000-square-foot destination that's not only the property's new centerpiece, but the largest Guerlain spa in the world. The historic space that formerly held the Italian restaurant Artu now houses 12 tiger-print bar stools and 30 lounge seats, primarily in the form of lush velvet-covered banquets and cozy swivel armchairs. The quirky layout of the old brownstone translates to a moody cocktail bar, full of nooks and crannies for romantic date nights and semi-private conversations, designed by Assembly Design Studio.
