Jordan Binnington has faced so many questions over the past year. Then again, so has the state of Canadian goaltending. Binnington's performances have been consistent, and he has played well enough to help keep Canada in the games in which the offense has had slow starts. Now it is a matter of seeing if he can parlay what he's done so far -- along with what he did in the 4 Nations Face-Off against the U.S. -- in the gold medal game.
MILAN -- Canada women's hockey captain Marie-Philip Poulin has been ruled out of her team's preliminary-round game against the U.S. at the Olympics on Tuesday night because of injury. Just about five hours before puck drop, the Canadian Olympic Committee announced Poulin would not play after leaving a win Monday night against Czechia with an undisclosed lower-body injury. Poulin is considered day-to-day.
The women's tournament is already underway, and the buzz in the Olympic village is the norovirus that appears to be making its way through the teams. Finland had to postpone the start of its games, as several of its players went into isolation to start the tournament. The Finns opened the games against the U.S. women on Feb. 7 and promptly lost 5-0, potentially feeling some of the after effects of the illness.
