If bill is signed into law, Portugal would join several European countries which already have full or partial bans. Portugal has approved a bill to ban face veils used for gender or religious motives in most public spaces that was proposed by the far-right Chega party and targets burqas and niqabs worn by Muslim women. Under the bill, approved by parliament on Friday, proposed fines for wearing face veils in public would range from 200 to 4,000 euros ($234-$4,670).
