When they arrived, they found a white Chevy van and a blue Toyota RAV4 that had collided head-on and sustained serious damage, according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn's office. The van was "located centered in the northbound lane in the correct direction of travel," officials said. The Toyota "appeared to have crashed into the white van."
Investigators say 89-year-old Klara Litvak, who lived nearby on Surf Avenue, died after being struck just before 1 p.m. Wednesday on Neptune Avenue. The fatal crash happened about 5:28 p.m. Thursday on westbound Thornton Avenue near Hickory Street, police said. Upon arrival at the scene, police and Alameda County firefighters located a Toyota Prius that had crashed into a tree, causing the passenger to be ejected.
