Dominic Calvert-Lewin aims for a World Cup call-up while Leeds United fights to remain in the Premier League.
The Leeds United striker scored six times in five matches across the festive period, helping his side beat Chelsea and Crystal Palace as they remained unbeaten throughout the month. Calvert-Lewin is the first player to win the Premier League Player of the Month award while playing for a newly promoted club since Teemu Pukki in August 2019, when current Leeds boss Daniel Farke was in charge of Norwich City.
As the half-time scores drifted in, two questions dominated the airwaves. Was Daniel Farke 45 minutes away from the sack? And just how underwhelming a summer signing had Dominic Calvert-Lewin been? As television and radio pundits agreed, the Leeds manager was in a precarious position, something extraordinary was unfolding in the away dressing room at the Etihad Stadium. It was late November and Leeds were trailing 2-0 to Manchester City.
Manchester United have joined the race to sign striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer. The 28-year-old left Everton earlier this week following the expiry of his contract. Calvert-Lewin, an England international, played 240 times in the Premier League for Everton, scoring 57 goals, but was consistently dogged by injury problems.
