The remote military range near the town of Tonopah is not primarily used for nuclear detonations, but it has long been linked to US nuclear weapons programs. The site is used to test how nuclear weapons would be delivered, including experiments where aircraft drop non-nuclear versions of bombs to study their performance.

An earthquake measuring at a preliminary magnitude of 4.3 shook Sonoma County on Saturday morning around 9:22 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor struck about 3.7 miles north-northwest of the Geysers, close to Healdsburg in the North Bay. Originally the quake was measured at a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 but that was revised to a preliminary 4.3 later in the morning by the USGS.

The 4.0 quake struck at 7:56 pm, and BART experienced a 20-minute delay so the tracks could be inspected. [Chronicle] A driver died after they hit a tree Friday around 12:26 am off Highway 17 in the South Bay. The driver had swerved and drifted down an embankment before striking the tree, causing the Tesla Model 3 to catch fire and trapping the driver.

Three minor earthquakes were detected less than 30 miles south of San Jose Friday morning, striking within three minutes of each other between 10.40 and 10.43am ET. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the first tremor registered as a magnitude 3.4 earthquake, and was then followed moments later by magnitude 2.6 and 2.5 quakes. No injuries or damage to local property has been reported at this time.
