LOMBARD, Ill. - October 21, 2025 - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Crosstown Fiber LLC (Crosstown Fiber), a fiber optic infrastructure developer specializing in the design and construction of high-capacity fiber networks, today announced the expansion of its western route connecting Aurora to downtown Chicago, offering enterprises the infrastructure foundation needed for reliability, security, and long-term scalability. Critical network vulnerabilities in the Chicago-Aurora corridor have left enterprises dependent on limited route options, creating single points of failure that threaten business continuity and undermine the region's digital infrastructure resilience.
Astound invested $4.6 million to complete approximately 55 miles of new fiber infrastructure throughout Newport. Along with all homes in the community, the area's 'anchor institutions,' such as government buildings, schools, fire houses, libraries, and clinics, can also access the network. In addition, Astound has included more than 300 South Beach area homes in the fiber build, upgrading the hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) that was previously in-place. Astound engineered the network with a combination of above- and below-ground construction.
Lumos, now part of T-Mobile Fiber, will deploy the latest fiber optic technology to support small businesses, boost connectivity on multifamily properties and meet the increasing digital demands of residents and families. The company's state-of-the-art fiber network will serve more than 20 Chicagoland communities, including Naperville, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Wheaton and Bolingbrook. "We're eager to get to work and begin installation of Lumos's Fiber Optic network across Chicago communities," said Brian Stading, CEO of Lumos.
