In the original 1986 film, thanks to a moody and iconic voiceover from Sean Connery, we learned that all the immortals eventually will have to "battle to the last," and when one immortal was left, that person would gain "the Prize." And so - spoiler alert - Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert) became the last immortal, and that was that. Well, not really.

It made me think of the 6 January attack on the US Capitol; what drives normal working class Americans to make these life choices? I'm counting on the UK to celebrate this film, because I think it's a little too smart for the American audience, frankly. A more European sensibility is going to respond more powerfully than an American one.
