Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 Resolver service became unavailable to the internet starting at 21:52 UTC and ending at 22:54 UTC. The majority of 1.1.1.1 users globally were affected. For many users, not being able to resolve names using the 1.1.1.1 Resolver meant that basically all Internet services were unavailable.

According to Down Detector, the problems started at around 07:21 BST, affecting customers across the UK. Of those who reported issues, 48 per cent were with landline internet, 33 per cent with email and 20 per cent experiencing a 'total blackout'.

The internet in Iran was down for three days, heightening fears and anxieties as people remained uninformed about bombings and evacuations amid increasing government crackdowns.

A major outage is currently occurring on North Korea's internet affecting all routes whether they come in via China or Russia.

In November, two data cables were damaged in the Baltic Sea in quick succession. Now, another internet cable has been damaged this time on land in Finland.
