According to a Tuesday report from Intelligencer, Times staffers were invited last year to begin nominating co-workers for what would eventually be called the Ochs Awards. Finalists for the 25 awards were announced Monday, and winners will be announced at an event on February 10. Cash prizes will also be given. Award categories include Best Scoop, Writer of the Year, and Rising Journalist. One Times writer joked that the idea was delightfully insane.

Tantesh's reporting has described the impact of the war on Palestinians in Gaza, and her own family in particular. She has described losing close relatives and witnessing the aftermath of bombing. In one piece, she described her family's return to her birthplace in Beit Lahia, only to find their home in ruins and their orchard destroyed. TAMPA, Florida (Nov. 16, 2025) - Legendary television journalist Jane Pauley of CBS Sunday Morning was awarded the Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism on Saturday at the Poynter Institute's Bowtie Ball. Pauley has a trailblazing career that spans more than 50 years, from being the first woman to anchor an evening news broadcast in Chicago, to being a host on NBC's Today show at age 25, to the anchor of Dateline to her nearly decade-long tenure with Sunday Morning.

Mark Tighe and Marie Crowe received the inaugural award for their investigative journalism on the silent suffering of women footballers, deemed a superb entry by judges.
