Two nice tune-ups. Two opportunities that showed the Rams can indeed be Super Bowl contenders. Now the real season - and test - begins. The Rams' 33-19 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Nissan Stadium improved their record to 2-0. Puka Nacua scored on a long touchdown run, Matthew Stafford passed for two touchdowns - including his first to Davante Adams - and edge rusher Byron Young had two sacks and forced a fumble to lead the Rams.
"We're not going to truly rule out the possibility of Steve [Avila] being able to go, but fortunately for us, we have established some depth where we've got some guys that if they need to be able to step up, they've shown that they're more than capable of that," McVay said.
Rams right guard Kevin Dotson and left guard Steve Avila will be week-to-week with ankle sprains, but have not been ruled out for Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans, head coach Sean McVay said Monday. Both guards left the Rams' season opener against the Houston Texans on Sunday with the injuries. Avila returned to the game after Dotson's injury. McVay said he and the team's medical staff will have more information later in the week and "a lot better idea of what their projected workload looks like and what their status will be."
With a strong nucleus of veterans and ascending young players, and the addition of several key free-agents, the Rams went into training camp with a deep and talented roster. So deep that veteran running back Ronnie Rivers and several recent draft picks were among 23 players waived on Tuesday as the Rams trimmed the roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players.
