The withdrawal of New York's incumbent Democrat mayor, Eric Adams, in September means the city will have a new leader either rising Democatic star Zohran Mamdani, activist and unopposed Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa or former New York governor turned independent candidate, Andrew Cuomo. Considered a huge outsider in the race, Silwa is a conservative, who hosts radio talk shows, describes himself as a populist and is famous in the city for his vigilante-like Guardian Angels group who aim to prevent crime.
