Nick Mangold's legacy as one of the Jets' greatest centers secures him a serious Pro Football Hall of Fame candidacy and lasting admiration.
In what was a devastating segment on ESPN's NFL Countdown, Ryan choked up after colleague Mike Greenberg reported on the death of former New York Jets offensive lineman Nick Mangold who passed away at age 41 after a bout with kidney disease. It's brutal, Ryan said fighting through tears. That's such a great young man. Ryan told a story about Mangold wanting to play in the game that turned out to be his last.
Mangold said he endured a "rough summer" and that he's currently undergoing dialysis. "I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have had more time," he said. "Unfortunately, I do not have any family able to donate at this time, so this is why I'm reaching out to you, our NY Jets community. I am in need of a kidney donor with type O blood."
