When she returned to her hotel around midnight, a desk clerk handed her a handwritten message of a phone call from a colleague back home in Washington, D.C.: "The office has been seized by the FBI. Return immediately."

Nixon's suspicion towards Harold Goldstein escalated into a directive to investigate, revealing underlying anti-Semitic views and a conviction that Jews within government were disloyal.
