The pressure is higher than ever to do well, she explained over text message. People aren't sleeping well, eating well or getting leisure time.

Fraser said it seemed like Education Minister Paul Calandra was hiding something amidst claims the results were being held for further analysis. There is no reason for him to withhold those tests, said Fraser, adding the tests are an important teaching tool for educators and children. There's no discernible reason unless the results are just a reflection of the fact that class sizes are too large and special education has been starved.

An Ontario school trustee who the province's education minister sought to fire through legislation has now resigned. Mark Watson was one of four trustees with the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board who took a $45,000 trip to Italy to buy $100,000 worth of art for the board. The controversial trip is one of several examples of what Ontario Education Minister Paul Calandra has cited as evidence of misuse of public dollars at some school boards and a need for a governance overhaul.
