Bay Area bakery draws hourslong line at opening

On Friday night, thousands of costumed San Franciscans descended on Mission Playground to dance to loud music, flirt and drink hard seltzers. In addition to your typical vampires and ghosts, transportation-minded San Franciscans showed up as Muni buses, BART cars and even Waymos ( RIP KitKat). The unsanctioned Halloween party, known as DanceOWeen, distills some of San Francisco's best traits: a love of music, a fixation with unsexy costumes and a willingness to flaunt permitting requirements, city agencies be damned.

This underground Oakland theater is now playing horror movies

Or you can watch one perhaps as it's better experienced: In a dark warehouse full of horrific decor, where it feels like zombies could break down the door any minute. The Shaker Theater is a new underground pop-up cinema in a residential part of northern Oakland. For its inaugural run, it's been playing George Romero's 1968 Night of the Living Dead during October, with final runs up until Halloween evening.
