The Met Police told the Standard its officers responded to a group of Youth Demand activists blocking Tower Bridge causing serious disruption at around 6.30pm on Saturday. The protest group shared footage of protesters wearing keffiyehs and holding a banner reading stop arming Israel and chanting we demand reparations. In the background, green smoke from a flare covered the famous bridge and several activists can be seen waving Palestine flags.
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. Do you find it curious that the protesters who have been in the streets, the people we're hearing from Hollywood and elsewhere who have intent understandably on helping the people of, the Palestinians, the people in Gaza who are under bombardment and have been for some time and who are hungry, are starving, that now that this peace plan is before Hamas, we're not seeing that same pressure on Hamas? An additional 31 students were "formally admonished" but not placed on probation.
We demand from our politicians more than just talk. We are long past this, Remah Naji, one of the organisers of the protest in the eastern city of Brisbane, told Al Jazeera. Now, we demand actions in the same way we acted in times of genocide. We are signatories to the Genocide Convention, which means that we have an obligation to prevent and punish genocide when it occurs.
