Atlanta Braves top prospects secured an 8-3 victory over Yankees prospects despite missing key players from the roster.
Roch Cholowsky's sophomore season with the Bruins was as good as it gets, slashing .353/.480/.710 with 23 home runs and 74 RBI. We've heard Cholowsky called the best overall shortstop prospect since Troy Tulowitzki and the most slam-dunk No. 1 overall selection since Adley Rutschman. While time will tell on the Tulo comp, the latter seems like a good bet.
The Florida Panthers are idle for the next three weeks. Ten of the club's skaters will be heading to Milan for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Matthew Tkachuk will play for the Unites States; Sam Bennett, Sam Reinhart and Brad Marchand wil skate for Canada; Anton Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen and Niko Mikkola will suit up for Finland; Sandis Vilmanis and Uvis Balinksis are part of the Latvian team; and Gustav Forsling will patrol the blue line for Sweden. Group Stage games will begin on Wednesday.
The Nationals made one of the biggest moves of the offseason on Thursday, trading MacKenzie Gore to the Texas Rangers in a five-for-one deal that sent shockwaves through both organizations. Washington acquired five prospects: Gavin Fien, Alejandro Rosario, Abimelec Ortiz, Devin Fitz-Gerald and Yeremy Cabrera. All five immediately slotted into the Nationals' top 25 prospects on MLB Pipeline. It's the latest bold move from president of baseball operations Paul Toboni, who has wasted no time reshaping the system since taking over.
The New York Mets have acquired All-Star right-hander Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Wednesday night. Top prospects Jett Williams, an infielder, and Brandon Sproat, a right-handed pitcher, are headed to Milwaukee, sources said. Speaking earlier Wednesday, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns strongly hinted that the Mets, one of baseball's busiest teams this offseason, weren't done.
With as many teams in the mix right now playoff-wise as there are, I think teams are very much trying to figure out their timing and what they need to do and when they want to do it, and then how aggressive they get or do they stand pat. For us, we view our biggest need as a higher-end skilled winger, and those aren't always available at the deadline. We're gonna keep trying to pursue those guys if they're out there.
Mesa, 17, signed for $900,000 and was ranked 30th on the MLB Pipeline Top 50 International Prospects list. He has received some high praise from scouts who say he could wind up being the best hitter in the 2026 international free agent class. The left-handed hitter is someone who makes a lot of hard contact and could develop above average power.
There was another prospect who ranked on Baseball America's top 100 IFA prospect list that signed with the Blue Jays: Aneudy Severino. The outfielder signed for $700,000 and ranked as the 71st-best prospect. His scouting report notes that he's just 5'9" but is strong and hits the ball hard. A right-handed batter, he's more of a line-drive hitter than a power hitter.
Word broke Tuesday night that Ryan Weathers, seemingly a lock as of Tuesday morning for the Miami Marlins starting rotation in 2026, had been traded to the New York Yankees in exchange for a boatload of prospects. The news comes just a week after Miami traded another projected member of the big league rotation, Edward Cabrera, to the Chicago Cubs.
