Blockbuster sequels and new IPs continue into 2025–2026 with high-profile releases Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Resident Evil Requiem.
Resident Evil Requiem preorders are now live at multiple major retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. The $70 physical version for PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox has an Amazon Exclusive Edition with a free double-sided poster. Console and PC players can preorder the $90 Deluxe Edition to get an exclusive steelbook case, lenticular card, and a bunch of digital extras.
The first special-edition Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has been revealed, and it's a surprising one. Nintendo is releasing a limited-edition Pro Controller themed around Resident Evil Requiem, the next mainline entry in Capcom's survival horror series. The Resident Evil Requiem Edition Pro Controller is available to preorder for $100 at Best Buy and the Nintendo Store. It launches alongside the game on February 27, 2026.
Next year, Resident Evil Requiem will introduce players to Grace Ashcroft, the newest protagonist in the franchise. In the trailers shared so far, Grace has been way over her head in danger. That's how she enters the story, but she won't remain that way forever. According to director Kōshi Nakanishi, Grace's transformation from helpless to powerful may represent the "most extreme gap" in the franchise.
Gamescom 2025 is wrapping up this weekend, but the winners of the annual Gamescom Awards have already been named. This year's biggest winner was Resident Evil Requiem, which took home four awards, including Best Sony PlayStation Game. There were some surprises along the way--including the winner of the inaugural Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game--and there were surprise winners among the indie titles like Windup's Hela, which won two awards against stiff competition from more established games like Donkey Kong Bananza.
I've played dozens of horror games, and consider myself acclimated to the scary elements that startle a lot of other people. I love a spooky atmosphere and an unsettling tone that creeps under your skin, and I'm not afraid to admit that Resident Evil Requiem got me good. I knew something was coming - I was in a room with other previewers who occasionally jumped or gasped - but I still practically leaped out of my skin.
