Long Island University was the first team to clinch a spot in the annual tournament. The Sharks did so by defeating Wagner in the NEC Tournament Semifinals. This was because their opponent in the championship game, Mercyhurst, is ineligible to compete in the NCAA Tournament. The Sharks earned their first spot in March Madness since combining their two campuses' athletic programs (Brooklyn and Post).
On Friday, FIFA will conduct the draw for the top men's soccer tournament, taking place across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The draw at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. will determine which opponents all 48 teams participating in the World Cup will eventually face in the initial group stage. The draw will be attended by the three leaders of the countries hosting the event, including President Trump, in an event that has become quite the spectacle.
The biennial Ryder Cup professional men's golf tournament will tee off at the Bethpage Black course in Farmingdale for the first time Sept. 26-28. The three-day competition pits a team of 12 of the best American golfers against 12 of the best European golfers in a match play competition. It alternates between American and European host venues the 2023 Cup took place at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Italy.
