Seven ducklings were saved from a storm drain on the Long Island Expressway by officers and workers from the Department of Transportation, Suffolk police reported. Officers Justin Davis, Sameer Malik, and Thomas Cummings were dispatched to the westbound LIE where the ducklings were trapped. Using an excavator, the storm drain cover was lifted to rescue the trapped ducklings, which were then released to Long Island Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation.

"It is unusual for us to receive such a high volume of chicks that are this young. Many are very young birds, not fully grown, and do not seem to understand how to feed themselves."
