The young male California sea lion was found underweight at 60 to 70 pounds and showing signs of leptospirosis, a bacterial disease linked to contaminated water.

Seven ducklings were saved from a storm drain on the Long Island Expressway by officers and workers from the Department of Transportation, Suffolk police reported. Officers Justin Davis, Sameer Malik, and Thomas Cummings were dispatched to the westbound LIE where the ducklings were trapped. Using an excavator, the storm drain cover was lifted to rescue the trapped ducklings, which were then released to Long Island Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation.
