Three people have died due to wildfires in Turkey, including a forestry worker in Odemis and two others. The Odemis fire was brought under control after ravaging approximately 5,000 hectares of land. However, another blaze in the southern coastal region of Dortyol is still being battled. Since June, firefighters have contended with over 600 fires in Turkey, enhanced by drought conditions and high winds. Rescues have involved the evacuation of more than 50,000 individuals from affected areas.
The fire in Odemis has killed three individuals, including a bedridden 81-year-old man and a forestry worker, while firefighters confront numerous wildfires across Turkey.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli announced that the fire in Odemis was under control, but the blaze in Dortyol remains active as emergency crews continue to battle it.
Odemis Mayor Mustafa Turan reported that the fire had devastated approximately 5,000 hectares of land, declaring, 'About 5,000 hectares was reduced to ashes.'
Over 50,000 people were evacuated from the region to escape the ongoing wildfires, which have been exacerbated by drought and strong winds since late June.
