Anthropic's cofounder says Meta's 'mega-offers' weren't enough to lure his team
Briefly

Meta's attractive offers did not sway Anthropic's staff, as cofounder Benjamin Mann emphasized their mission-driven focus. He noted many remain at Anthropic despite tempting financial incentives from other tech giants because they prioritize impacting humanity's future over monetary rewards. Mann acknowledged the escalating AI talent war and stated that while others may pursue high-paying opportunities due to personal circumstances, Anthropic team members remain aligned with their mission. Mann expressed that current salary packages reflect substantial value creation amid an unprecedented scaling era in AI.
"People here are so mission-oriented," Benjamin Mann said. "They get these offers and then they say, 'Well, of course I'm not going to leave because my best case scenario at Meta is that we make money, and my best case at Anthropic is we affect the future of humanity.'"
"To pay individuals like $100 million over a four-year package, that's actually pretty cheap compared to the value created for the business," Mann said. "We're just in an unprecedented era of scale, and it's only going to get crazier."
