On June 14, 2025, hundreds gathered in Downtown Brooklyn for the No Kings protest, a demonstration against President Trump amid concerns over his executive powers. Organized by the 50501 advocacy group, the event drew between 200 to 300 participants, despite rainy weather. Attendees held signs echoing themes of resistance and democracy. The protest coincided with Trump's military parade and his birthday, with many expressing feelings of hopelessness about the political climate. While larger protests had erupted elsewhere, Brooklyn's demonstration remained peaceful, showcasing family participation and a unified call for democratic values.
"I just feel so hopeless," said 71-year-old Chuck Dorr. "I cannot stay at home and read one more story."
"It represents that we are protesting what's going on in the country, with our current president, and this is not demonstrative of the democracy," said Mira, 67.
"Every day it just gets crazier and crazier, and [Trump] is trying to become king or dictator and ugh, we can't let it happen, we can't let it happen."
