A preliminary magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck near Clayton Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake struck at around 3 p.m. and had a depth of about 4 miles. The tremor was felt in the East Bay, including Antioch. There are no reports of any injuries or damages.
The Clovis Police Department wrote on social media that the 26-year-old Fresno man fled "multiple times at speeds over 130 mph" on both city streets and on Highway 168. The pursuit, which also included the California Highway Patrol, took place on Sept. 5 and began after the man was spotted speeding through Clovis on a green Kawasaki motorcycle, police said.

The race to bring a $1 billion nuclear fusion plant to their city has officials in Livermore eager to make a deal. Despite no firm commitment from the startup behind the project, Pacific Fusion, the Livermore City Council this past week unanimously approved the company's plan to develop a 225,500-square-foot facility on a vacant stretch of West Jack London Boulevard.
The California Public Utilities Commission is expected to allow Southern California Edison to hike customer bills by nearly 10% next month, and there may be more increases to come. Edison's plan would boost the average residential bill by $17 a month or about $200 a year, the commission said. The monthly bill for a customer using 500 kilowatts would jump from $171 to $188 on Oct. 1. The five commissioners are scheduled to vote Thursday on the PUC administrative law judge's proposal. It's just one of multiple rate hikes Edison has asked the commission to approve in the coming year.
Richard Quinones was walking his dogs one morning this summer when he spotted a woman in a ditch. The town will require homeowners with security alarms to pay for $95 annual permits, in an effort to crack down on false alarms and conserve Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department resources. Police data shows officers responded to more than 910 false alarms last fiscal year out of 1,375 alarm activations, about 40% of which came from homes. The Town Council unanimously approved the decision earlier this month, with the policy taking effect in January.

On Thursday, California lawmakers unanimously approved a plan to pay incarcerated firefighters the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour while assigned to an active fire, a raise of more than 700%.
As the legislature inches closer to its Saturday deadline to pass legislation, there's more than just Cap-and-Trade being put on the agenda at the last minute. One of two defendants with ties to the Zizian cult appeared before a Solano County Superior Court judge on Thursday and requested to fire her defense attorney. SANTA CLARA COUNTY A small plane reportedly crashed Friday afternoon about 10 miles northeast of Mount Hamilton in Santa Clara County, according to authorities. The crash was initially reported around 2:30 p.m. seven miles east of Mount Hamilton, but Cal Fire crews later discovered the site was actually in the Arroyo del Valle area, Division Chief Ed Orre said. As of 4 p.m., crews were still figuring out how to access the site, according to Orrey.
First responders on are the scene Friday, investigating a possible small plane crash in the mountains east of San Jose near Mount Hamilton. Crews arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire associated with a small plane crash. Multiple helicopters combed the area looking for the scene. One chopper landed and several firefighters hiked to an area that appeared to contain debris, but there was no obvious signs of fire.
They were arrested in September 2021 after taking Brockman's daughter, A'Miya Dawson, to the emergency room of a Willowbrook hospital after she became unresponsive, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. At the hospital, doctors determined that the girl's injuries did not line up with statements made by Brockman and Whalen. Detectives also searched the couple's apartment and found additional evidence, sheriff's officials said.
Twenty-four days after the worst wildfire in L.A. history burned their stadium, members of the Palisades Charter High School football team stretched and twisted on a middle school field in Santa Monica. To the north, a sickly orange haze hung along the horizon, a reminder of the inferno that had reduced parts of their school to a ragged tangle of charred masonry, metal and wood. About 10 players had lost their homes in the Palisades fire.
