Hidden cameras found casing Bay Area neighborhood, police say
"It is believed the camera was used to monitor the occupants of the residence in preparation for a burglary or other criminal activity,"
"be cautious of unexpected visitors or deliveries"
"check your property regularly for unfamiliar devices or objects."
"several reports of deceptive tactics used to case unoccupied homes."
At 2:45 a.m., a San Jose homeowner spotted people outside their home and later found a hidden camera attached to an external power bank facing the house. Police believe the camera was used to monitor occupants to prepare for a burglary or other criminal activity. While searching the neighborhood, the burglary unit found another hidden camera connected to a wifi device. Officials reported deceptive tactics used to case homes, including people posing as landscapers or delivery drivers who ring doorbells or leave packages to test occupancy. Authorities warn residents to check properties for unfamiliar devices, avoid touching suspicious items, call police, and email the burglary unit with information. Similar schemes were reported earlier this year in Lost Hills and Placer County.
