Former Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie resigned earlier this year after receiving underwhelming support in her leadership review following Ford's easy election win."
"Liberal MP Nate Erskine-Smith is interested in running for the party's leadership, as is Liberal MPP Rob Cerjanec, former federal cabinet minister Navdeep Bains, and housing advocate Eric Lombardi, while former political staffer Dylan Marando is the only other candidate to officially enter the race."
Lee Fairclough, a rookie Ontario Liberal legislator, announced her bid for the party’s leadership. She previously won one of three seats from the Progressive Conservatives in Etobicoke during the 2025 snap election. She said she is ready to build an Ontario that works for everyone and emphasized affordability, improved health care, and education. Her career began as a radiation therapist, followed by leadership work at Toronto’s Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and later as president of St. Mary’s General Hospital in Kitchener. She also described learning from representing Canada on the national rugby team, including membership on Canada’s Women’s Rugby Team at the 1998 World Cup. Other potential leadership contenders include Nate Erskine-Smith, Rob Cerjanec, Navdeep Bains, and Eric Lombardi, with Dylan Marando the only other officially entered candidate.
