Eleanor Doney, an 83-year-old retired kindergarten teacher, was fatally stabbed in Pickering by a 14-year-old boy, who faces first-degree murder charges. Her death, which has garnered community support and tributes, was shocking due to the lack of connection between Doney and her alleged assailant. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing that sharing the accused's identity is illegal. Doney's family expressed gratitude for the support received and remembered her as a beloved, faith-driven member of the community.
In a statement shared through police Tuesday, Doney’s family expressed gratitude for an 'outpouring of love and support' in the wake of her death. 'We especially want to thank the first responders for all of their efforts,' the statement reads.
Pastor Kevin Armstrong, who knew Doney from her three decades as a member of his congregation in Ajax, said Doney was known as generous, kind and witty. 'You wouldn't find a better person,' he added.
