Laptop Ban? In 2024? What About My Facetop?
Briefly

In 2024, a new no-laptop policy was implemented in a cafe, leading to frustration for a customer who was writing. The customer acknowledged the trend of people in cafes being absorbed by screens, yet argued that many were merely scrolling their phones instead of being productive. With numerous empty seats and a recent purchase of food, the policy felt unreasonable. The situation highlighted the contrast between restricting laptops while allowing phone usage, questioning the rationale behind such rules in today's context.
I simply had to leave because it's a weekday. Even if I wanted to sit by myself for an hour or two and enjoy some coffee in silence, there's work to be done.
I get it. You walk into any number of cafes around the world and it's increasingly people behind screens, typing away, not being social.
There were a dozen empty seats in this cafe. It's mid-morning. Also, I had not only just ordered a coffee, but a bite of food as well.
This just strikes me as crazy in the modern world.
