A Texas health authority has issued a warning against 'measles parties' amidst a growing outbreak that has now reached 146 cases, including one fatality among unvaccinated children. Ron Cook, chief health officer, highlighted the unpredictability of measles complications, urging thorough vaccination instead. While Lubbock has seen a few cases, most of the outbreak is centered in Gaines County, one of the least vaccinated areas. Cook noted that while discussions of measles parties have surfaced on social media, they remain a dangerous and outdated notion, with severe health implications for participants.
It's not good to go have measles parties because what may happen is-we can't predict who's going to do poorly with measles, be hospitalized, potentially get pneumonia or encephalitis and or pass away from this.
It's mostly been ... social media talk. Please don't do that. It's just foolishness; it's playing roulette.
